These traps are cheap but functional. We use them and through them out with the dead mouse. It’s not worth the hassle to remove the dead mouse. The “cheese” area is plastic and comes off from the metal easily. It snaps back on just as easily. Most of the time these traps kill the mouse on the first snap. One of the traps out of the 12 caught the mouse but didn’t kill it. So odds are good that the critters do not suffer. They are sensitive enough that when the dogs nose nearby, the traps snap startling them back. So far, none of the pets have been caught in the device.
